About the Author

Born in India to a Punjabi family of teachers and educators, I obtained a master’s degree in biochemistry before undertaking doctoral studies in molecular biology at the renowned Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. After earning my Ph.D., I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT in Cambridge and subsequently held a research position at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, a suburb of San Diego, California.

I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the American Philosophical Society, the National Academy of Sciences, and several other international societies. I am a proud father and grandfather to twin granddaughters and have been married to my Dutch wife for over 50 years.

I currently reside in the La Jolla/Del Mar area of Southern California.
